The case of the Deoband Maulana being plucked off a flight and packed off to judicial custody, without anything fishy being recovered, has received detailed coverage in the Urdu papers. The editor of Rashtriya Sahara Aziz Burney, in a repeat of what he did after the Batla House encounter, has characteristically launched his signature full-page bilingual editorials in the paper (May 19 and 20) focusing on the “greatness” of Deoband and its role in the freedom struggle and how facts on it are twisted by some people. He has also railed on other cases where profiling alone resulted in erroneous lifting or harassment of Muslims or those who “looked” visibly like Muslims.
